Character Biography: Ando Masahashi keeps the tradition alive of time and space travelers having a trusting companion. First seen as a close friend of Hiro Nakamura who reluctantly tolerated his sci-fi fascinations, Ando worked together with Hiro at Yamagato Industries where he was happy with his life and daily routine. Although Ando on occasion took a break in his cubicle and visited the website www.lasvegasniki.com.

After spending a night out drinking with Hiro and listening to his friend's rants on how he believed he was able to control time and space, Ando dared him to do so and teleport himself into the women's bathroom of the bar they were at. Shortly after Ando found his friend kicked out of the bar, believing he had snuck into the bathroom to fool him. He mocked his friend as they parted ways.

After this event Hiro disappears for five weeks. Ando answers his phone at work to surprisingly hear his missing friends voice only to have the phone taken away by an F.B.I translator trying to find out whether he had seen Hiro the night before. Shortly after this time line is averted by Hiro teleporting himself back to his original time.

Seeing his friend show up at work in the same clothes he had been in the day before, Ando continues to mock Hiro and his theories until he is confronted by a comic book Hiro brought back from the future. At first he laughs believing Hiro had photoshopped it until he sees the conversation they had just had inside of the comics' pages. He attempts to brush it off until Hiro offers to prove that his powers are real. They leave the office and go out into town to try to find an event as it occurs in the comic book in an attempt to save a girls life. In what could be considered a predestination paradox (Bad Wolf) Ando sees the girl crossing the street and runs in front of an on coming truck to stop it, therefore causing the truck to swerve straight towards the girl. Hiro uses his power to stop time and move the girl to safety, when mobile once again Ando realizes Hiro had been telling the truth and Hiro asks him to join him on his journey.

Upon arriving in America, the two friends rent a car and set out on a road trip, although at first argumentative over taking such a long drive towards New York City, Ando agrees seeing that they'll have to drive through Las Vegas, where the woman he'd been chatting to over the internet lives. Once they arrive in Vegas Ando geek talks Hiro into using his power to help them win money in the casinos, eventually arousing the suspicion of some high rollers, they leave.

Eventually finding his internet obsession, Niki, Ando is nearly arrested by the police who were there staking out her husband. Niki asks him to leave and decides not to press charges. A saddened Ando meets up with his friend again and they continue on their way until they are stopped by the same high rollers from the casino. They are invited to play a private poker game and again make people suspicious. Ando and Hiro go to the bathroom to have a conversation when they hear a loud noises and gunfire from outside, when they leave the bathroom they find all the men mutilated.

After comforting Hiro who felt down over the fact that he had not been able to save the men, they pair continue their trip. As they go they stumble upon a car accident and stop to help joined shortly by D.L. Hawkins and his son Micah Sanders who also stopped to help. After the ordeal Micah recognizes Ando and asks if he had visited his mother, Niki. Ando not having seen Micah before stares confused.

Stopping at the Burnt Toast Diner in Midland, Texas, Ando watches as his friend befriends Charlie Andrews, their waitress. While Hiro is in the bathroom Ando hears a crash from the back of the restaurant after hearing another waitress scream Ando gets up to hear from a police officer that Charlie was dead. Soon after they're questioned by the police. This begins a conversation with Hiro in which he reveals that Charlie had been killed in the same way Isaac Mendez had been in the future and that he has to do something about it, try to find a way to save Charlie. Ando tries to reason with his friend but is eventually left sitting alone in the diner as Hiro uses his powers to travel into the past.

He waits in the diner and is eventually contacted on the phone by Peter Petrelli, after agreeing to meet at the diner Ando notices a picture of Hiro with Charlie that had been taken 6 months earlier, during Charlie's birthday party at the diner. Meeting up with Peter Petrilli who tells him he found the cheerleader they had been looking for Ando tells him he has to wait for his friend and wishes Peter luck. He then continues waiting for his friend, who finally returns from his voyage later that evening and informs him that he was unable to save Charlie.

Getting back to their travels they head to Union Wells High School in Odessa, Texas to find yet another crime scene. While there Hiro and Ando are contacted by Isaac Mendez and they set up a meeting. Once back at the Burnt Toast Diner with Isaac, Ando urges Hiro to tell him about what he saw in the future. The trio retire to a hotel room, where Hiro encourages Isaac to use his power to paint on a fresh canvas. When Isaac is done both Hiro and Ando stare at a picture of Hiro fighting a dinosaur, tachi in hand.
