Through a period when they were going through financial troubles D.L. left his job as a construction worker and joined up with a group of criminals with the mind set of stealing two million dollars. Noticing that they would have to kill a security guard to do so, D.L. abandoned the heist not wanting to take another life. However, Jessica, his wife's alter ego, killed his men and the security guard and took the money, framing him in the process.

Using his powers to break out of jail, D.L. went back to his wife and son. After spending a short time with his happy family reunited D.L caught Niki with the money from the heist. Believing that she had framed him he fought with her and used his power to hurt her internally, took his Micah and left her for dead.

He took his son on the run as they were followed by Jessica. While on their trip he stopped to help get a woman out of a burning car, where he encountered Hiro Nakamura and Ando Masahashi. Soon after Jessica caught up with them and after being shot by her and having a confrontation in which Micah was hurt by Jessica. Niki came to control her power again and explained to D.L. what was wrong. She then walked away from him and their son and turned herself into the police.

Now that Niki is behind bars, it is up to D.L. to raise Micah alone.
