"Where
does it come from? This quest... this need to solve life's
mysteries for the simplest of questions can never be answered.
Why are we here? What is the soul? Why do we dream? Perhaps
we would be better off not looking at all; not delving,
not yearning. That's all human nature, not the human heart.
That is not why we are here."

Summary:
GENESIS--As a total eclipse casts its shadow across the
globe, a genetics professor (Sendhil Ramamurthy, "Blind
Guy Driving") in India is led by his father's disappearance
to uncover a secret theory -- there are people with super
powers living among us. A young dreamer (Milo Ventimiglia,
"Gilmore Girls") tries to convince his politician
brother (Adrian Pasdar, "Judging Amy") that
he can fly. A high school cheerleader (Hayden Panettiere,
"Ice Princess") learns that she is totally indestructible.
A single mother (Ali Larter, "Final Destination")
struggles to make ends meet to support her young son (Noah
Gray-Cabey, "My Wife & Kids"), discovers
that her mirror image has a secret. A gifted artist (Santiago
Cabrera, "Empire"), whose drug addiction is
destroying his life and relationship with his girlfriend
(Tawny Cypress, NBC's "Third Watch"), can paint
the future. And in Japan, a young man (Masi Oka, NBC's
"Scrubs") develops a way to stop time through
sheer will power. Yet, unbeknownst to them all, their
ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world...

Mohinder
Suresh's Closing Narration:
"This quest, this need to solve life's mysteries...
In the end, what does it matter when the human heart can
only find meaning in the smallest of moments? They're
here... among us. In the shadows, in the light, everywhere.
Do they even know yet?"
Alternate
Versions:
There was a longer (72 minute) version of the Heroes
pilot screened at the Comic-Con International in San
Diego. Among other differences, the longer pilot does
include Greg Grunberg as Matt (though his wife is played
by a different actress) and there are some scenes with
Mohinder learning more about Sylar.
There
is a whole nuclear/terrorist plot in the longer pilot
that was dropped for the series. One of the last scenes
of the extended pilot was of Micah getting off a bus right
by a prison.
The
producers of Heroes claim that the Comic-Con screening
was the only time that this variation of the pilot will
be shown.
