NBC To Revive Heroes For Fall 2012? No, It Was An April Fool's Gag, But...

If you came to HeroSite.net on April 1st, you may have seen the headline that NBC is planning on reviving Heroes for Fall 2012.... and if you had kept reading, you would have seen it was an April Fool's gag, and that no such plans are currently being made.

Hopefully no one got too angry at the Fool... hey, we've done it before... but the real reason it all happened to begin with was for an excuse to write this column, posted by HeroSite.net's Craig Byrne at our general TV news site, KSiteTV. Enjoy:

Tim Kring's Statement On Heroes' End

Heroes creator Tim Kring has issued a statement about the cancellation of Heroes. Here's what he had to say:

"I want to first extend my deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to the legion of enthusiastic fans who have watched ‘Heroes’ on TV, online,  DVR, DVD and mobile over the last four seasons.

Every week more than 45 million TV viewers around the world, as well as millions of social and digital media-based fans, have made ‘Heroes’ one of the five most-watched shows across traditional and digital media screens in the history of television.

For NBC, I certainly understand the challenge of creating a business model around a show which arrived precisely as the audience was finding new ways to watch traditional content on multiple screens.

I personally have had 12 great years with my friends at NBC, and with ‘Heroes,’ they provided me a rare opportunity to put a message of hope, interconnectivity and global consciousness into the world.  For that I am grateful and look forward to finalizing our discussion about a number of ways to keep the ‘Heroes’ universe alive for its fans."

A Two-Hour Heroes Wrap-Up Is Still Possible

Variety spoke with NBC executives today at the time of their Upfront announcement, and posted a quote from NBC Entertainment President Angela Bromstad where she talked about the decision to end Heroes and the possibility for more in the future. Here's what she said:

"I think that Tim knew that this could have been the last season for 'Heroes' and he answered a lot of questions for the fans. But after the upfront Tim and I are going to sit down and see if he is interested in doing a two-hour movie event, and we'll see how it goes."

It's Official: Heroes Is Over.

The Live Feed is reporting that the official news has come in.

Heroes is canceled.

Some reports say a two or four hour "wrap up" for the series is possible, but it is probably very unlikely.

Discuss this news on our forum!

Heroes Canceled?

Just two days ago we were saying that Heroes Season 5 is still a possibility, but now, the very reliable Josef Adalian at NYMag is saying that it's done.

"As NBC has become more confident in its slate of new shows, all indications are that our Heroes are dead," Adalian says in his latest column which can be found here.

Apparently even Tim Kring has not been given this news. If Heroes is indeed over, a two- or four-hour movie wrapup can still be a possibility.

NBC will be announcing their Fall schedules on Sunday, May 16.

Heroes may not be dead just yet.

NBC Entertainment President Angela Bromstad recently said some promising things to THR's James Hibberd, and Variety is saying that a 13-episode fifth season is likely.

You can find more details at KSiteTV. NBC will be formally announcing their Fall 2010 schedules on the morning of Monday, May 17; although more details should surface before then.

heroes brothers keeperAli Larter Thinks Heroes Will Be Back

At a panel for the Resident Evil movie franchise at this year's WonderCon, Ali Larter addressed the question of whether or not Heroes will return.

"I think that we'll be back," Larter said. "I think that there are still stories that need to be told."

Thus far, no official announcement has been made about Heroes' future. Some actors are signing to other pilots; our own sources have implied that a shorter-length "final season" is the most likely scenario if the series should come back.

NBC will be announcing their Fall 2010 schedule on Monday, May 17.

Special thanks to Daniel at HitFix for first posting this Ali Larter news online.

Two More Heroes Vets Join "Pizza Man"

HeroSite.net has learned of two more Heroes cast members appearing in the upcoming movie "Pizza Man."

In addition to David H. Lawrence XVII who will be playing a Commissioner Gordon-like character, the father and son duo of Leonard Roberts (D.L.) and Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah) will be appearing... as a father and son. Those of us who miss D.L. and Micah from the show's best days should really appreciate this.

More details, including interviews, are coming here and on KSiteTV.

Heroes Veteran Takes On A New Superhero Project With Malcolm In The Middle Star Frankie Muniz

Many folks in the Heroes fandom might remember Foz McDermott, known for a while on Twitter to his fans as "TheMightyFoz." When working on Heroes, Foz was involved in many aspects of the show's production, also producing for the BBC "Heroes Unmasked" series in addition to writing episodes of the Heroes "Slow Burn" tie-ins as well as writing for the online graphic novels.

Sadly, Foz has departed Heroes, with the comic book story "1978, Part 2" being the end of his show involvement. He is sticking close to his roots, however, as an executive producer for an upcoming family-friendly movie feature titled "Pizza Man" which will include former Malcolm in the Middle actor Frankie Muniz, making his return to acting for the first time in five years.

Playing the villain of the film is former championship wrestler "Diamond" Dallas Page.

Foz tells us that the movie should appeal to both kids and the parents who grew up following the kinds of superhero movie and TV fare that we have enjoyed. The hope is to incorporate some folks from past superhero-related projects either in full roles or cameos. Those are yet to be announced - but we CAN tell you that David H. Lawrence XVII, aka Heroes' Puppet Master, will be in the movie as a character who is very different from his Heroes role.

If you think "Pizza Man" is a silly name for a character, there's a reason for his name (and his costume).

Writing the script will be Marco Mannone. whose previous credits include 2008's Vampire Killers.

Directing the film is Joe Eckardt, who directed High Hopes starring Jason Mewes of Kevin Smith movie fame.

We should have more information about this project shortly here on HeroSite.net and on KSiteTV.

New Poll: Do You Think Heroes Has Had Closure?

With no announcement yet of Season Five, and the recent announcement of a new hero-oriented NBC series in The Cape - some fans are worried that Heroes might end without proper closure.

Some, however, think that the show had its closure in the Season Four finale with many storylines wrapped up. What do you think? Participate in the new poll:

heroes brothers keeperGreg Beeman Returns To Smallville, Allan Arkush To Direct New Pilot

Two of Heroes' best directors have new projects coming up.

Greg Beeman is returning to Smallville for the ninth season finale of the series. Beeman's last Smallville episode was in Season Five for the show's 100th episode, "Reckoning." You can read more about that here.

Meanwhile, Allan Arkush is also working with a Smallville actor - Tom Welling - who is producing a new CW series pilot called Hellcats. Arkush will be directing the pilot, which shoots in April. Read more about that.

NBC's Angela Bromstad Talks About Heroes' Future

A new interview with NBC Entertainment President Angela Bromstad has her talking about the network's future - and where Heroes might fit in to it. Here's the latest:

THR: Let's run down some of the bubble shows. "Heroes"?

Bromstad: We met with ("Heroes" creator) Tim Kring (last week) and talked about a lot of things. It's a wait-and-see for us.

THR: If "Heroes" does come back, is there a chance of it being announced as a final season?

Bromstad: We're going to cross that bridge when we come to it.

Heroes Overnight Ratings Fall To Under 4 Million

Overnight ratings for Heroes fell to under four million viewers for last night's episode - effectively the lowest-rated episode of the series. Now, the show will undoubtedly get some of those viewers back with DVR and later DVD sales, but is that enough?

The ratings dip has inspired a poll, which I know will probably be skewed since this is a Heroes fan site, but I'll ask anyway - have you given up on Heroes? Let your voice be heard. I'm curious how many may have tuned out.

close to youGrunberg Says Heroes Will Live To See A Fifth Season

Despite some tumbles in the ratings, Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman) has told Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello that he fully expects a fifth season of the show.

“We wrapped yesterday and the [final episode] is nowhere near a series finale,” he said to EW at last night’s People’s Choice Awards. “It is cliffhanger-y and exciting, but it is nowhere near an end to a series that people are so invested in. It does not tie everything up in a neat bow… I don’t have any doubt that the show will be back.”

Read these comments and several more at Michael Ausiello's EW column.

lydiaEncouraging News From Dawn Olivieri

Digital Spy has conducted a new interview with actress Dawn Olivieri, who plays "Lydia" during this season of Heroes.

Among other things, Ms. Olivieri teases the latter half of the season, but most interestingly, she offers some hope for a fifth season. From Digital Spy:

There have been a lot of rumours that this may be the final season. Have the cast been assured that this isn't the case? Or have you been kept in the dark too?

"Everybody talks about it losing momentum and not being so great in the ratings, but honestly, this show makes so much money for NBC that I don't see it gong anywhere. It's had No.1 DVD sales every year it's been on - internationally - and I don't think it's going anywhere. I think it'll keep going."

heroes brothers keeperHeroes Expected To End?

E! Online's Watch With Kristin has posted news that Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder) has signed on to be in the NBC pilot Rex Is Not Your Lawyer, starring Doctor Who's David Tennant. (How's THAT for an awesome co-star?)

She also posted this: "A well-placed Heroes source tells me of Sendhil's casting: "Everyone is expecting this to be the last season. The cast, the crew, everyone." Which would explain why Sendhil has been cast in an NBC pilot. Clearly, the Peacock peeps wouldn't place Sendhil (who is pretty funny in real life, by the way, and who should do well on a dramedy) on a new series if they expected a conflict ahead."

The question remains, though... is this just conjecture? Is Sendhil really considered to still be a part of Heroes anyway, considering his lack of appearances in Season 4? Guess we'll know more as the writers come closer to breaking the end of the season... but, honestly, what else does NBC have to air that could do better than Heroes and isn't comedy or having Law & Order in the title? Stay tuned...

Heroes Official Season 4 Write-Up From NBC

NBC has released their official write-up for Season 4 of Heroes. There may be some SPOILERS within!

From creator/writer Tim Kring ("Crossing Jordan") comes the award-winning "Heroes," an epic drama that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities.

On September 21, "Heroes" returns with its fourth season and a brand-new volume – "Redemption." As the dust settles from last season, our heroes attempt to settle back into their ordinary lives. But, as they will quickly discover, it's not easy to go home again. They will face one pressing question: how do extraordinary people lead ordinary lives? Originally posted on HeroSite.net

Previously, in "Volume 4: Fugitives," our heroes made an attempt to return to their normal lives – but that attempt was cut short when Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) uncovered a deadly plot orchestrated by one of their own – Senator Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar). After revealing to the government that there were people with special abilities, Nathan spearheaded an initiative to capture and imprison those people and used Noah Bennet a.k.a. H.R.G. (Jack Coleman). Lives were torn apart. H.R.G.’s own marriage was destroyed. Tracy Strauss (Ali Larter) was killed -- literally shattered into frozen pieces.

Ultimately, it was Nathan who paid the price for his misdeeds – murdered at the hands of Sylar (Zachary Quinto). Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose), devastated at the loss of her son, and H.R.G., in need of an ally within the government, convinced Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) to use his ability to repair the damage. Matt used mind control and forced Sylar to shapeshift into Nathan, while erasing Sylar’s own memories so he truly believed he was Nathan. Now, as far as everyone else knows, Nathan is alive and well. And Sylar is gone. But all of that is about to change…

This season, "Volume 5: Redemption" begins with our heroes putting their lives back together.

Claire is finding that her biggest challenges are forgetting her old life and starting college. How does someone who has led such an extraordinary life assimilate back into everyday college life? Any semblance of normalcy is shortly overturned when Claire’s roommate commits suicide and Claire discovers her new friend, Gretchen (guest star Madeline Zima), is hiding a secret herself.

Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) goes back to his old life in Japan, but discovers that he has a terminal illness. When Hiro can no longer keep his illness hidden, he sets out to fulfill his own personal bucket-list – righting the mistakes of his past. But will Hiro be able to correct the errors of his ways without severely altering the past and present?

Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) returns to work as an ordinary New York City EMT, but he uses his abilities to save lives. Peter has become obsessed, looking for redemption and shutting out the rest of the world he once knew. How can he forget the past and begin anew? Peter’s life will quickly change when a hearing impaired woman, Emma (guest star Deanne Bray), enters his life. Emma has used her disability as an excuse to shut herself off from the world. But as a new and unique ability manifests, the shell she’s built around herself will begin to crack apart – as will Peter’s.

H.R.G. is adjusting to life as a single man. Charged with creating a new company, he is rapidly discovering that he needs more from his life. But how does a company man become ordinary? And, when Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) returns and offers H.R.G. compelling evidence of a new danger, it makes H.R.G. wonder if he should get back in the game.

Tracy Strauss, having risen from the dead, is consumed with seeking vengeance, but soon realizes that she has a real opportunity to reinvent herself. The question is: who should she be?

Nathan Petrelli, not realizing who he really is, returns to the Senate and begins to notice strange changes in himself. Most alarming, Nathan discovers that he has new abilities. These changes are not lost on Angela, who recognizes them for what they truly are – the emergence of Sylar.

Meanwhile, racked by the guilt of what he did to Sylar and Nathan, Matt Parkman returns to life as an ordinary family man. All he wants to do is to raise his son, love his wife and return to a fulfilling career as an LAPD detective. But what Matt doesn’t know is that something unfamiliar is buried deep within his psyche – Matt can see and hear Sylar. And this specter will haunt him until Sylar is returned to his body.

The biggest challenge for our heroes is a strange and dangerous carnival comprised of a traveling band of outsiders with powerful abilities, led by a charismatic and powerful leader, Samuel (Robert Knepper). Alongside Samuel is his right hand man, Edgar (guest star Ray Park), a deadly Speedster with a talent for knives, and Lydia (guest star Dawn Olivieri) the Tattooed Lady.

Samuel leads his flock to intersect with the lives of all of our heroes. He will find them, and he will entice them to join him. And together, they will ask the same basic questions: Who are we? What does having powers mean to the world? How should we live our lives – shameful or proud? Should we hide or live out in the open? And if the world of powers is revealed, how will the world ever recover?

In 2009, "Heroes" has been honored with: a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show, a Teen Choice Award for Choice Action-Adventure Television Show, and a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series. Among its honors in past seasons, "Heroes" has garnered a People’s Choice Award, an AFI Award, a Multicultural Prism Award, a TV Land Future Classic Award, the Television Critics Association Awards' Outstanding Program of the Year, the International Prize at the BAFTA Television Awards, and Choice TV Show Action Adventure at the Teen Choice Awards. It has also garnered nominations at the Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, NAACP Image, WGA and Satellite Awards.

"Heroes" is produced by Universal Media Studios in association with Tailwind Productions. Kring, Dennis Hammer, Adam Armus, Kay Foster and Jim Chory serve as executive producers.

the end of beeman blogsGreg Beeman Announces Heroes Departure In Latest Blog

In this week's "Beaming Beeman" blog from director/producer Greg Beeman, it has been announced that this will be the last Heroes-related installment, as he has departed the series. "Ultimately this was a financially motivated decision made by NBC. They no longer want to have a Producer/Director position on the show. But it coincides well with my own innate wanderlust, and so, while sad to leave so many friends and comrades, I am excited for the future," he wrote.

HeroSite.net webmaster Craig would like to express his own appreciation for Mr. Beeman for his support over the years with HeroSite and with the years before with Smallville and KryptonSite. He's always been supportive of fan interaction, and the blog has been and will continue to be a great way for him to connect with his fans. We'll keep you updated on Mr. Beeman's next project.

As for Beeman's contributions to the show, they have been numerous. His enthusiasm as a director and producer are unsurpassed, but moreso, every show he works on has a specific "look." Clearly from the blogs, we see his cast and crew really liked working with him, and Heroes' loss is going to be another project's gain. Good luck, Mr. Beeman.
