Character Biography: Mohinder Suresh is a former genetics professor at the University of Madras in Chennai, India. Mohinder had taken his father’s position after he left to pursue his radical theories for which he became the laughing stock of the University. Further back than Mohinder can remember, he had an older sister, Shanti who died of a genetic abnormality when he was only two. Mohinder’s mother would later explain to him that they believed Shanti was very “special,” possibly exhibiting some unknown power before her death. His father, Chandra Suresh, was determined to figure out what caused her death, and became obsessed with finding out where this genetic abnormality originated. This obsession eventually led to a falling-out between Mohinder and his father after he found out that Chandra was abandoning his family and his job to pursue his “ridiculous theories” in America. Chandra believed that he had finally tracked down an “evolved human”; his “Patient Zero”.

After the news of Chandra’s mysterious death, Mohinder suspects that he was murdered for his research and plans on going to NYC. Before leaving, he stops at his father’s old apartment but quickly realizes an intruder (HRG) is in the apartment and escapes. This helps to reinforce his suspicions about his father’s death.

Upon arriving in Brooklyn, he starts renting out his father’s old apartment, which had also been ransacked. He begins driving a taxi and serendipitously meets Peter Petrelli on a fare. They would only share a brief conversation then, but would meet again much later and play a huge role in each other’s lives. Mohinder then drives a mysterious man to the airport who begins asking lots of questions about his name and talks about his father. Mohinder, terrified, pulls the taxi over and flees. It is revealed that the mysterious man is HRG, the same man who was in Chandra’s apartment in India.

If that wasn’t enough, Mohinder finds a man in his apartment days later. He appears to be an exterminator, but an increasingly paranoid Mohinder is certain he’s not. The man attacks Mohinder and escapes. During the chase, a girl outside in the hallway happens to obtain the gun and fends the man off. Mohinder introduces himself to the girl, Eden McCain, and she introduces herself as Chandra’s good friend and next-door neighbor. Eden was unaware that Chandra had died.

Together, Mohinder and Eden start searching for clues as to who could have murdered his father. Eden eventually discovers a USB flash drive when putting Chandra’s lizard, also named Mohinder, back into his cage. The drive appeared to have all of Chandra’s research; even a program that seemed to be able to find those with special abilities. Eden and Mohinder also discover a mysterious conversation on Chandra’s answering machine with a man named Sylar.

Sitting at his desk trying to make sense of Chandra’s program, Mohinder pulls out a gun when someone begins unlocking his door. It ends up only being Eden, who had been given keys to the apartment by Chandra. Frustrated with his father’s seemingly nonsensical program, he throws the laptop, which breaks and exposes a hidden compartment with a journal. The journal contains accounts of several people around the world who Chandra believes has special abilities. At the end of the journal there is an address for the man called Sylar, and a key. Eden and Mohinder visit the address in the journal, but the key does not work in the door. A still curious Mohinder decides to break in, despite Eden’s requests to leave. Inside, the apartment is plain and very stale, but Mohinder discovers a hidden room that contains replicas of much of his father’s research (including the map, but with many more names) and a wall seemingly covered in blood. They go to the cops, but by the time they come back to the apartment, it has somehow been completely emptied. However, Mohinder does remember seeing a picture of Nathan Petrelli in Sylar’s apartment, and goes to his campaign offices to warn him that his life may be in danger. Nathan ignores Mohinder and has his bodyguards take care of him.

Mohinder, frustrated with trying to make sense of father’s research, gives up and decides to return to India; however, before he can pack his bags to leave, he gets a visit from Nathan Petrelli’s brother, Peter. He tells Mohinder that he thinks he may be one of the people his father wrote about. They don’t seem to remember each other from the first time they met. Peter explains his power to Mohinder, who remains very skeptical.

After a failed visit to see Isaac Mendez, Mohinder and Peter take the subway back. Mohinder decides that Peter is insane after Peter tries convincing him that time had stopped and that he received a message from the future while on the train. This was the last nail in the coffin for Mohinder and he decides that it is time to go back to India. Mohinder and Eden share a kiss before he leaves and she assures him that he’ll come back to America; however, what Mohinder doesn’t know about his brooding love interest is that she is a spy. She had been planted in that apartment to monitor both Mohinder and his father.

Mohinder returns to India to scatter Chandra’s ashes and begin teaching at the University again. He is confronted by his ex-girlfriend Mira, who offers him a much better job with her genetics company, in exchange for staying quiet about his father’s theories. Mohinder begins to have a bizarre series of dreams of past events, but they all included a young boy who Mohinder did not know. From the dreams he finds out that he had an older sister, Shanti, who died when he was a baby. He also finds out how his father was killed, but most importantly, the dreams reveal what the key that Mohinder and Eden found is supposed to be used for. Mohinder uses the key and finds a local boy named Sanjog Iyer, the same boy who was entering Mohinder’s dreams. The boy helps Mohinder to find the password to his father’s program, which contains a list of all the people Chandra had found.

Mohinder returns to the USA to locate these people to warn them of their powers, and that the people on the list are in great danger. Shortly after arriving, Mohinder receives a cryptic phone call from Eden, who explains that she is going to fix things by killing the man who killed Chandra Suresh. Unfortunately, Mohinder has now learned that the girl he knew as Eden McCain is now deceased.
