Jessica Sanders - Ali Larter

"The hunger, I can't control it, I don't want to."

First Appearance: #1.3 "One Giant Leap"

Also Known As: Gabriel Gray, Gabriel Sylar, Patient Zero

Location: Brooklyn, New York

Profession: Watchmaker, Serial Killer

Known Relatives/Associates: Chandra Suresh (mentor)

Powers: Sylar's original power as described by him is the ability to see "the way things work". He has somehow found a way to use this power against other people with special abilities and modify his DNA and "collect" their powers for his own through some unknown process involving the brain. The process has driven him slightly mad and he refers his craving to power as a "hunger".

Victims he has taken abilities from include:

Brian Davis (Telekinesis)

Charlie Andrews (Photographic Memory)

How many abilities he has collected and their nature are uncertain as of now. He has shown the ability to rapidly recover from injuries as well as above average strength and has hinted at signs of possessing the power of flight. In a future timeline Isaac Mendez (Precognition) is found apparently one of Sylar's victims, whether this will come to pass or not remains unknown.

Character Biography: Although at first nothing more than an ominous silhouette who's name inspired Voldemortian feelings, few things are now known about the man who was born Gabriel Gray.

Growing up he feared settling into an average life, wishing to be more, to be someone special, unique. His wish wasn't granted and he settled into the life of a watchmaker like his father before him, until he met Chandra Suresh. Upon their first meeting, Chandra gave Gabriel a copy of his book Advancing Evolution and told Gabriel to read it and contact him if he desired to find out more. Excited at the prospect of finally being someone Gabriel sought out Dr. Suresh and they began the tests to see if he did indeed posses superhuman potential. When the tests came out negative, Gabriel was furious and stormed out, not ready to settle back into his normal life, he contacted Brian Davis, one of the other names on Dr. Suresh's list. When Brian arrived at the watch shop Gabriel introduced himself as Sylar, the brand of a watch he had been working on. Brian demonstrated his ability of telekinesis to Gabriel who was amazed. When Brian asked if Gabriel could help him fix it, he was disgusted that someone could want to give such a precious gift away but Gabriel noticed something else. He could see Brian's different genetic make up and declared Brian "broken" for not being able to see what he had. Gabriel then told him he could fix him and struck him in the back of the head with a nearby decoration, killing him.

Brian Davis, became the first victim of the man who was now known only as Sylar. Through an earlier conversation with Dr. Suresh about the brain being the center of a being, Sylar devised a way to isolate what gave Brian his unique abilities and took them for his own. Excited that he was special now and could easily demonstrate it he went to see Dr. Suresh to prove his new powers and officially became the Doctor's first study case, he was dubbed Patient Zero.

How their relationship progressed over the next two months is unknown but eventually Sylar and Dr. Suresh came to a falling out climaxing in Sylar killing the doctor inside of his taxi cab. Following these events it is believed that Sylar started hunting down people with abilities and killing them to take their powers for his own. His nation wide murder spree drew the attention of the authorities, including the C.I.A and F.B.I, most notably Agent Audrey Hanson who began following the trail of the killer she knew only as Sylar.

Eventually, Sylar ended up in Texas and after taking the ability to posses a photographic memory from waitress Charlie Andrews, he went to Odessa High to collect a power from a cheerleader who had been receiving news coverage for walking into a burning train to save a man and escaping with no harm done to herself. Unbeknownst to him, the cheerleader who had taken credit for the rescue, Jackie Wilcox, was not the one who had actually accomplished the feat. Upon attacking her, one of her friends Claire Bennet, tried to stop him, Sylar knocked her back with above average force and was shocked when she stood up and healed before his eyes. Letting go of the lifeless body of Jackie he was confronted by Peter Petrelli who in an attempt to stop him, flung the two of them off a five-story drop.

Sylar phased but unharmed got up and tried to make an escape only to be stopped by Eden McCain and the Haitian. He was incarcerated in a room designed to stop the use of his powers and interrogated by Mr. Bennet.

In an attempt to stop him Eden walked in and tried to use her power of persuasion to make Sylar commit suicide, unfortunately, his rage allowed him to access his power and he pulled her through the glass of his cell. To stop him from attaining her powerful gift, Eden aimed the gun she had intended for him to use at her head. Sylar looked on horrified knowing that with her brain ruined he'd never have her gift for himself. Seconds after Eden's death the Haitian and Mr. Bennet entered the room sedating him.
