Character Biography:
Theodore Sprague was once a man who loved his wife, Karen,
with with all his heart. After finding out she had cancer
he began to blame himself for her condition due to his
power to emit radiation. His downward spiral eventually
led Ted to lose his temper and accidentally kill his wife's
oncologist, Dr. Robert Fresco, when he told Ted there
was nothing he could do to save his wife.
This
incident put FBI Agent Audrey Hanson and her partner Matt
Parkman on his trail, believing him to be the serial killer
known as Sylar. After exploring his house which was badly
damaged and giving off high radiation levels Audrey and
Matt track Ted down to his wife's hospital room. There
Ted confesses that he had in fact killed the doctor and
states his reason. When they try to apprehend him, Ted
grabs the nurse that had been caring for his wife and
says that he'll let her go if they allow him to stay with
his wife. Matt eventually defuses the situation by using
his power to read Karen's mind, at first convinced that
it was just a ploy by the agents Ted let's the nurse go
when Matt reveals to him a nick name his wife called him,
Teddy Bear. He let's the nurse go, leaving a burn where
his hand had been holding her and holds his wife's hand
as Matt relays to him her final thoughts. Karen dies shortly
after, letting Ted know, through Matt how much she loved
him. Ted then surrenders himself into custody.
At
the FBI office Audrey and Matt begin to interrogate Ted
on the recent events that led up to everything. Ted begins
to tell Matt, through his thoughts, that he had blacked
out and when he woke up things started changing. He then
reveals to Matt two marks on the curve of his neck, marks
that Matt also possessed. He then relays his story that
while in Kansas he blacked out and woke up two days later
in Arizona, with cuts and bruises all over his body, afterwards
his powers started materializing themselves.
Matt
and Ted begin discussing having shared a similar experience
after seeing a Haitian. Before they can delve any deeper
the Department of Homeland Security comes to take Ted
believing him to be a terrorist. As he's being taken away,
Ted looks at Matt and tells him to "find the Haitian."
Later
that evening Audrey calls Matt to inform him that Ted
had escaped, leaving the car that had been transporting
him in flames.
